What do you think of 48 year old men in Speedos?

Question by Nick: What do you think of 48 year old men in Speedos?
Long story short: I’m 48, I hired a personal trainer and got into the best shape of my life. Now my trainer (who has won competitions before) wants me to do an “All Natural” bodybuilding competition.

Pros – at 48 it’s an accomplishment and maybe a once in a lifetime chance, and would be something to celebrate all the hard work.

Cons – I’m not comfortable in front of people, would be nervous posing, and am not sure at all about being up on stage in a speedo with my junk flapping in the breeze.

So, if you’re under 30, how would you feel about your dad doing that? If you’re over, how would you feel about your s/o doing that? In general, do you think I should do it? Thanks!

buuut dont wear that thing out in public, i think its really messed up when i see guys wearing them on the beach but thats just a 15yr olds opinion :P

You need to always keep in mind that what you do in public can have far reaching consequences, even ones you didn’t think of at the time…. But hey man, it’s up to you. You do what you feel like doing….

I wish I had to sit there and think about whether or not wearing a Speedo in public would be a good idea!

Ummm…good luck choosing…but I hate seeing older men in speedos…the same goes for older women in bikinis…but if you are fit and in the best shape of your life, why not have a little fun? If you don’t do it you might regret it for the rest of your life…and if you do make a fool of yourself it’s just something to laugh about….don’t take it personal, feel proud about yourself and slowly decide on your own…if I had a great body and I were older…well it is a once in a lifetime chance…I say go for it..you might not regret it..

    i think:
    Oooh lala.. :D

PS. i think since you’ve worked hard on it, you deserve it! It might be embarrassing to your kids though. i would be if it was my dad. i think they might support you though. Goodluck in speedos!
You’ve earned it; you trained for it, so why not go for it?! and/or you can just wear normal swim pants/shorts.

I really don’t like the look of them, at any age or body type. It’s just not necessary.
As far as whether you should do it or not, that’s all on you, because you know exactly how uncomfortable you would be or how much it would be worth it to be in the competition. You could go somewhere like an indoor pool or something wearing one so you could either get more easily used to it or make the decision that it’s not for you.

You know what? I’m under twenty and i say go for it.. if they want you to be in the competition then they know you can do it and you should be proud of what you’ve achieved.

  15. 16 MamaLuna January 15, 2012 at 7:33 pm

I think you owe it to yourself to do it after all you may not get another chance at this.
You have worked your butt off to get to this point go show off!!!
If my husband was ask to do this I would be thrilled for him!!
So go practice posing and don’t worry about the speedo you won’t be the only one wearing one and everyone there expects them.

I think its great. Not looking at your junk or anything. But the fact that your are in good shape and you are proud of the shape that you are in.Don’t be embarrassed .If people have a problem with your package then don’t look.My dad is 63 years old he is diabetic he goes to the gym to keep his sugar under control and lose weight 5 days a week, at times he wears his speedos.Keep in mind he is not the smallest man in the world, but he doesn’t care.So I say great job and rock on with your great bod and speedos. :)
If you do decide to enter the competition.GOOD LUCK!!!

Oh my gosh Nick you should totally do this!
I am so proud of you :D if it wasn’t all natural btw I would not support :P
I believe the pros outweigh the cons don’t ya agree? Half of the people who will be watching probably won’t know you so just go out there show off yourself. I’m sure a lot of people will want to buy Oil of Olay after seeing you ^_~ I wonder if they’d let you wear shorts? Either way I really hope you do this.
But no pressure :] & I also hope that if you do decide to do this that you have fun.
& well noo haha I think using my dad or anyones dad isn’t a great example cause yeah it’s my dad haha. I wouldn’t want to see him in a speedo. So what if you’re 48. We all know you don’t look it!
    So be proud Nick :]
edit: I hope you’re not doing this Just for us Nick ^_- but also yourself :]

Oh as if you wouldn’t take the opportunity to celebrate your success and experience something you may never have the chance to experience again!!!

Do it for sure! Doing things we’re afraid of builds character.

  21. 22 Big Woof January 15, 2012 at 9:47 pm

I’m 48 as well. But nobody wants to see me in a speedo.

  22. 23 ✿Donna❀ January 15, 2012 at 10:40 pm

Since I’ve seen your new body in jeans. I can truthfully say, you look great, and I would certainly love to see you in a Speedo. But…

Since you’re not comfy with being onstage, on display, and wearing next to nothing, with people gawking, and appraising “the goods”… Your discomfort is probably going to show, and work against you. If you can work up confidence (I think You can) and show your pride, along with your abs then your charm and pride will surely make you a crowd favourite.

As for how I’d feel, about my significant other doing that- My boyfriend is certainly “display worthy” in my eyes. Whatever he wanted to do is okay with me.

  23. 24 :] [: January 15, 2012 at 11:04 pm

Hey, if you got it, show it off!! :] But if you really can’t make yourself do that, then I wouldn’t do it. I’m not the type of person that would get in front of a crowd like that, so I understand with some of your cons BUT if you’ve worked to get to what you have now, then show off what you’ve achieved! I’m not picking yes or no though because I think it all really comes down to how comfortable with it you are. And hey, if you decide not to do it, you still accomplished something so it’s not exactly losing something. Either way, you’re still gonna have the body and the satisfaction that you’ve done something, right? And to answer your other question – well, if that was my dad then… yeah.. I wouldn’t be comfortable with that. But if you’re proud of it and would like to scream it to the world (:P) then go for it!

I think it is a wonderful idea you strutting your stuff. I don’t get why you have to wear Speedos though although it sounds lovely the “junk flapping in the breeze”. Be proud of yourself and go for it. I can’t wait to see the pics on you know where!

  25. 26 Word to the Wise January 16, 2012 at 12:27 am

Most 48 year old men “could” be in as good shape so I say, “Go for it” if you’re comfortable with it. If your trainer has confidence in you, you should have also.

I sounds like you’re not so comfortable. You shouldn’t worry though. You probably are smoking hot no matter what your age is now. Age is relative……relatively unimportant.

I wouldn’t mind my SO being in a competition like that if HE felt comfortable doing it (he’s 46). It’s not like you should have an erection. You’ll be sooo nervous you probably wouldn’t be able to have one anyhow. Just wear a cup “for protection” and noone will know the difference if your thing springs.

Good Luck if you choose to compete.

  26. 27 Mandy♥ January 16, 2012 at 12:46 am

Yay!! Nick!! That’s awesome!!!! You should be very proud of yourself, that’s a great accomplishment! This would definitely be something to celebrate all your hard work. I can understand you not feeling comfortable with the idea of being in a speedo in front of a lot of people. But at the same time, others in the competition will be in the same position as you, and you might feel a bit more comfortable once you’re with everyone else, rather than imagining the horrors of it right now, lol. Your trainer must have a lot of confidence in you, and I hope you believe in yourself too!

It maybe a once in a lifetime chance, and if you decide not to do it, you might look back and regret your decision. Sometimes stepping a little bit out of your comfort zone pays off, and you could look back at this as a great experience and be really pleased that you did it.

But, if you really don’t feel comfortable doing it, then that’s understandable, and don’t push yourself or let anyone else push you. Whether or not you take part in the competition, you’ve accomplished something pretty amazing, and you really should be proud of yourself!

Now, when you ask how I’d feel about my dad doing that… O_O That’s really not something I want to think about, lol. How would I feel about someone else doing it, like you, who’s worked super hard to get into the best shape of his life? RAWWRRR!!!!! ;) I think you should have more confidence in yourself, and give yourself more credit than I think you are. Even though this is out of your comfort zone, I think it’s definitely something you can do, and I think you’d end up having fun with it.

Good luck Nick!! And if you do decide to go for it, don’t be afraid to send me a picture, lol. :D
